The production of GMC Yukon started from 1935. In some areas of world, this vehicle is also known as the GMC Suburban too.

First Generation (2000–2006)

The GMT800-based Suburbans were prefaced in the late 1999 and launched in the 2000 model year. They were traded in series such as 3/4-ton 2500 and 1/2-ton 1500. Suburbans were produced in LT, LS, and base trims. All three trims were paired with either traditional two wheel drive or the elective four-wheel drive mechanism.

For 2000 model year, Chevrolet’s traditional 7.4 L and 5.7 L engines were dropped along with the 6.5 L diesel engine. The new engines such as 6 L (364 cu in) and 5.3 L (325 cu in) replaced the old ones in the lineup of 2500 and 1500 series, respectively.

Changes in 2001

For 2001 model year, the 2500-series was designed with a 6.0 L V8 engine that could evolve 20 hp (15 kW), and there were plenty of modifications incorporated, including the innovative aluminum cylinder heads.

In the same year, an 8.1 L (496 cu in) V8 engine was also included as an alternative for the 2500. On LT and LS models, an OnStar came as a standard item with Z71 equipment. On 1500 series trucks, a Quadra-steer four-wheel steering was included as an elective item.

During 2002, many elective features were included under the traditional package on the LS model. The LS model was also included with

• alloy wheels,
• rear and front air conditioning,
• power windows,
• heated outside rear view mirrors,
• fog lamps,
• side steps, and
• power front seats.

Standard models were suspended, leaving only the LT and LS trims in the lineup. The engine used in the 1500 series included flex-fuel capability too.

In 2003 model year, all the GM full-size trucks got improved interior, high quality materials, and some other improvements as well. Some new radio systems were also included such as

• XM satellite radio,
• Radio Data System compatibility, and
• Bose sound and upgraded ergonomics.

Unique LTZ trim equipment was added for 2006 model year. An all-wheel drive, LQ4 6.0 L engine, and 20-inch (510 mm) wheels were also added to the 2500 series.

GMC Yukon (2009—2010)

The 2009 GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV produced in 2500 (3/4-ton) and 1500 (half-ton) models. These two models are available in traditional trim levels such as Denali, SLT, and SLE.

The 2009 version comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine, which delivers

• 335 pound-feet of torque and
• 310 hp of power.

For the 1500 SLT, a 6.0-liter V8 engine comes as an optional one that can pump out 376 lb-ft of torque and 366 hp of power. All engines are coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Yukon 2500 models come with a traditional 6.0-liter V8; however they are slightly different from the rest in terms of power, performance, and other capabilities. The engine ratings are as follows:

• 382 lb-ft of torque and
• 352 hp of power.

The top end trim Denali is featured with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that can produce 417 lb-ft of torque and 403 hp of power.
